Meet the Team

A native of College Station, TX and a proud graduate of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2007, Krishna Shanmugam, M.D. (“Dr. K”) is delighted to return home to his roots in the Brazos Valley with his new ophthalmology practice, BCS Eye.  As the only fellowship-trained glaucoma and cornea surgeon in the area, Dr. K is excited to serve the community that has made him the person and physician that he is today.

After graduating from A&M Consolidated High School as a National Merit Scholar and obtaining his B.S. in Genetics from Texas A&M University, Dr. K attended the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for his MD degree.  He proceeded to complete his ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he achieved the highest OKAP score in his residency.  He later completed a prestigious glaucoma/anterior segment surgery fellowship from the Tulane University School of Medicine, followed by a cornea/refractive surgery fellowship at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.  Thereafter, he stayed on for 3 years as an attending physician/Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Mizzou, and thoroughly enjoyed mentoring several medical students, residents, and fellows prior to moving back to the Brazos Valley.  In 2018, he received one of the prestigious “Attending of the Year” awards at Mizzou for his commitment and dedication to patient care, and his love for teaching the future doctors of tomorrow.

Dr. K truly looks forward to serving the patients and referring providers of the Brazos Valley.  He values a patient-centric and individualized approach to taking care of his patients, and enjoys spending the time and effort to get to know each and every one of his patients.  Dr. K and his wife have 3 small children, and his wife and children are the light of his life. In his spare time, he is a lifelong diehard Texas A&M Football fan and a Super Championship level Tennis Player, and plays 4 South Indian classical musical instruments.

For his eye surgery patients, Dr. K and his extremely professional staff aim to deliver a high level of care for patients and their loved ones.  As a board-certified ophthalmologist, he understands the responsibility and privilege he has been given to deliver expert level care for patients and their vision/eyes.  Dr. K has performed several thousand surgeries, and is delighted to help guide you through every step of the eye surgery experience.
